The Jabbawockeez is an eight-member, all male, hip-hop dance crew best known for being the winners of the first season of America's Best Dance Crew. The Magic of Christmas....Got to Believe! by DAVID POMERANZ

It's great to be a blogger.  Why?  Because you can connect with bloggers in your local area  and get invites to week shows/events.  You will never know where you might end up!

Just like what I've experienced for the past days now.

From the post of Ms. Josephine Bonsol at FILIPINO BLOGGERS WORLDWIDE(FBW), she is looking for a bloggers from Davao to cover David Pomeranz concert, Dec. 15, Saturday 9PM at PAGCOR-CASINO FILIPINO Grand Regal Hotel.

Without any hesitation, because I love Mr. Pomeranz songs and wanted to be part of it, I privately send her a message through Facebook asking for how many Davao Bloggers she needed for the show.  And she immediately replies, "I need Five Bloggers plus one companion each". To make the story short, the five Davao Bloggers are JONAS LABAGALA of My Crib of Fashion, Movies, Music, Gadgets and Events. ALGENE CUTAMORA of The Coffee Chic.  Sarah Jean Gavile of All Honest Reviews.  Quimz Renegado of Giddy Chiq.  And Mr. and Mrs. Christopher and Emafe Rice of Pinky Rice Girl.

And with the help of Christian Torio of Media Nation Inc., Davao Bloggers have a good privileged seat.  We were able to have a closer look of the concert.

Me and Sir Christian Torio of Media Nation

The concert was started by Steve Fernandez of PAGCOR FIVE .

He performed an Original Filipino Music.  Had a good voice and good looking as well, no wonder he becomes one of the active PAGCOR FIVE members.

The one we have been waiting for, the International singer-composer itself, Mr. David Pomeranz.

He had his grand entrance right in the middle of the Pantawan Hall.  Heard the screaming and shouting of the people calling his name "WE LOVE YOU DAVID!" And he greeted and welcomed us to his concert. Then singing all his wonderful and inspiring songs from old to new.

Just going back some memory lane of songs of David Pomeranz, he became the leading figure of energized inspirational songs of all times:

  1. A Personal Touch
  2. Born For You
  3. Devoted To You
  4. Got to Believe in Magic
  5. I Learned It All From You
  6. I Still Believe In You
  7. If You Walked Away
  8. In Our Hands
  9. It's In Everyone Of Us
  10. King And Queen Of Hearts
  11. My Romance
  12. My Safe Harbor
  13. Oh Stephanie
  14. On This Day
  15. Over And Over Again
  16. Rainbows And You
  17. Shangri-La Girl
  18. Tangled And Tied
  19. Tell Me
  20. The Distance Between Us
  21. The Old Songs
  22. The Truth Of Us
  23. This Is What I Dreamed
  24. Trail Of Broken Dreams
  25. Tryin' To Get The Feeling Again
  26. Undying Admiration
  27. Until I Fall In Love Again
  28. Where Do We Go From Now?
These are some of the songs he sung for us that night.

I really have a good time with David's Concert.  We also have great interactive fun games with him.  He is not just a good performer but a good story teller too!  Giving us the story insights of his songs and the core meaning of it.  Every song has its own story and every story has it's own meaning in LIFE.  And each life has a story to tell.  And each life has it's own set of LESSONS, EXPERIENCES, and PERSPECTIVES.   And if we assimilate the meaning of it, it will lead us to a GREAT INSPIRATIONAL SONG!

Every leaf is exclusive; every bird sing its own song.

THY WOMB in Davao

Just recently Nora Aunor was here to have her RED-CARPET PREMIER NIGHT of "THY WOMB" held  at SM Lanang Premier.

It was a bad day for her because she lost her cellphone at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, but nevertheless she ended up to have a happy day for winning BEST ACTRESS in 6th ASIA PACIFIC SCREEN AWARDS or APSA in Brisbane, Australia.  And her director Brilliante Mendoza won BEST DIRECTOR AWARD for the flick "THY WOMB".

THY WOMB is the year's most internationally acclaimed Filipino Film all taken at TAWI-TAWI.

An exquisite film that reflects the extravagance of linguistic diversity among the people of the cultural minorities of Tawi-Tawi, among them the Sama tribe of the Bajaus played by the major characters: "The beauty of the Sama homelands is
undeniably a major attraction of the film but the beauty of its languages will most likely go undetected by its viewers, especially for its international audience...The six languages in the film are an accurate reflection of the linguistic diversity of the region as well as the entire Philippines. This is my first time to see so many languages woven into one film so seamlessly. It better reflects the cultural reality of language swapping that occurs in the Philippines than the usual all Tagalog programming found in Philippine movies and TV."
 ~sinama.org

It is a film base in gratitude and goodwill.  It also depicts the life of marginalize people while orienting itself to the country's goal for progress and peace.

Watch the video of the victorious moments at the national premiere of "Thy Womb" in Davao City where the trophies for best actress (Ms. Nora Aunor) and best director (Brillante Mendoza) from the 6th Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA) were handed out prior to the screening.

ABS-CBN Christmas Station ID 2012: Magliliwanag ang Mundo sa Kwento ng Pasko

A very heart warming video from ABS-CBN.

Every year, the Kapamilya Network marks the start of the yuletide season with the launch of the ABS-CBN Christmas station ID. It has become almost a yearly tradition that Filipinos around the globe look forward to.

Lumiliwanag ang Mundo sa Kwento ng Pasko, our Christmas Station ID theme, highlights how the Filipino spirit always shines through despite calamities that ravage our country. It shows how each one of us become bearers of light, as we help our countrymen get back on their feet... how we remain resilient because kindness never runs out, because help always comes.

Many scenes in the SID are inspired by real events. Some of these stories happened at the height of the habagat - A fireman saved the lives of those stranded in their own homes; a chef opened the doors of his restaurant to feed victims; a young woman offered her own jacket to a street child who was suffering under the cold rain; Philippine coast guards went out of their way to save lives; Volunteers and civilians selflessly offered their time and energy to relief work.

This year's offering features hundreds of Kapamilya stars paying tribute to ordinary Filipino heroes, at the same time helping spread the light across the globe.

The parol, a Pinoy Christmas icon, is this year's Christmas SID centerpiece. Film director John-D Lazatin suggested the idea of having kids orphaned during Typhoon Sendong design a parol. This, in turn, is used as an instrument of light spreading around the world. When we own the Kapamilya parol, we're not only spreading the light, we're also being part of an effort to help our disaster affected Kapamilyas, as proceeds from the parol sales would be donated to Sagip Kapamilya, the ABS-CBN Foundation arm which provides relief to affected communities of disasters, as well as engage in rehabilitation and disaster risk reduction projects.

This year's Christmas anthem was written by Robert Labayen, ABS-CBN's Vice President of Creative Communications Management with music by Marcus and Amber Davis. It was performed by an ensemble of Kapamilya artists -- Sarah Geronimo, Martin Nievera, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Vina Morales, Billy Crawford; the Champions Angeline Quinto, Yeng Constantino, Erik Santos, Jed Madela, Christian Bautista, Bugoy Drilon, Marcelito Pomoy, Jovit Baldivino; the Sessionistas Aiza Seguerra, Richard Poon, Juris, Princess, Sitti, Kean Cipriano and Bamboo; X Factor Philippines Grand Winner KZ Tandingan, kid singers from ABS-CBN Star Magic; Daniel Padilla and Piolo Pascual.

The 2012 Christmas Station ID was created by ABS-CBN Creative Communications Management headed by Robert Labayen, Johnny Delos Santos, Patrick de Leon and Ira Zabat. It is directed by Paolo Ramos with Peewee Gonzales. Logo design by Melo Saliendra, head of Print Graphics and Design. The SID Creative and Production team members are Dang Baldonado, Danie Sedilla-Cruz, Edsel Misenas, Kathrina Sanchez, Christina Barbin, Christine Joy Laxamana, Marchie Blaire Mallari, Sheryl Ramos, Adrian Lim, Carla Payongayong, Chiz Constantino-Perez, Christine Daria-Estabillo, Lota Rosales, Lloyd Corpuz, Mark Bravo; with ABS-CBN Marketing Cookie Bartolome, Baroy Morga, Chris Wong; ABS-CBN TV Entertainment, ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs, ABS-CBN Regional Network Group, ABS-CBN Global.

Other members are Jaime Porca, Technical Production head; Rommel Andreo Sales, Director of Photography; Odyssey Flores, 2nd Unit Director of Photography; Sam Esquillon, Production Designer; Oliver Paler, Alfie Landayan, Meryl Miranda, Con Ignacio, Post Production Team; Jimmy Muna, sound engineer; Winnie Mariano, artist coordinator; Mary Ann Rejano, Remy Sotto, Talent Caster; Marvin Bragas, Location Manager; Marileth Abejero, Photographer; Darwin Duenas, Production Coordinator.

TRIVIA:
Being a fan of Be Careful with My Heart's Maya and Ser Chief, Zsa Zsa Padilla and Zia Quizon had their photo taken with the love team of Jodi Santamaria and Richard 'Papa Chen' Yap when they saw each other at the SID shoot set.

KZ Tandingan was nervous on the shoot of her line for the song because it was her first music video shoot.

Angel Locsin took time during and after the shoot to talk to the Red Cross Volunteers about her experiences during her volunteer work.

Kris Aquino was very happy during the shoot as she interacted with the Sagip Kapamilya Volunteers, the Bacoor Cavite Police, the Santa Lucia North Fairview Firemen, Red Cross Emergency Response Unit, and members of the Philippine Military.

PBB Teens and Gerald Anderson went on location at the Artex Compound in Malabon for the shoot of the SID. Residents of the compound were delighted to see them. Female residents were the ones tasked to row their small boats for the artists, their regular means of transport around the flooded compound.

Gerald Anderson was with the members of the Philippine Coast Guard for his sequence.

My Response to Leloy Claudio’s Commentary “OPM is Dead”

I got a permission from Jessica Madrazo, owner of the blog DAVAO MUSIC NATION to re-blog her post.

photo credit: tech no logic via photo pin cc

Reading Leloy Claudio’s commentary that OPM is dead, I think he simply doesn’t like OPM and that’s ok; to each his own. But seriously, just because you don’t go to the scene, it doesn’t mean there is no scene. You are NOT the only audience in the world and it’s insulting to the artists you quoted here to say that their situation is hopeless. It’s short sighted of you to say that they’re simply closing ranks to protect a dying industry.
Like you, I had the same opinions about the Philippine art and music scene. But rather than write commentaries on why OPM and the Filipino arts movement is dead, my friends and I (at Davaomusicnation.com) are doing what we can to make a dent at the problems you stated. We’re trying to get the local government involved and we’re educating the masses on OPM. Rather than bitch and whine about how bad the situation is (and we have every right to because we ARE part of the local music scene), we’re actually trying to make things better. We know the problems plaguing the industry but the difference between you and the rest of us is that we refuse to take this thing lying down. You’re right about everything you said about OPM. But it’s often easier to point out the problems than actually getting your hands dirty and doing something about these problems.
Musicians are not dumb nor are they delusional. We know that OPM is facing what seems like insurmountable challenges. My friends and I know it’s an uphill battle and we probably won’t see the fruits of our labours in our lifetime, but at least we’re doing something. We’re happy to see that somehow, despite the odds, musicians are still inspired to create because we’re helping them find an audience. They know they all won’t be big successes but at least they had an opportunity to share their craft. They had a chance to share their talent to their fellow Davaenoes and for one set, they moved people, created a moment, and became heroes.
OPM isn’t about sales; it isn’t about creating rock gods and pop princesses. Music isn’t about class or taste. If you think music is all about sales, fame and popularity, then I don’t think you’ve ever truly listened to music. Have you ever listened to “Ode to Joy” and felt true happiness? Have you listened to Gloc-9′s “Sirena” and empathized with the singer? Have you ever listened to “Kandungan” and felt tears run down your face?
If you don’t feel anything when you listen to music, then you have no right to talk about music. If you’ve never been entranced by a live set, if you’ve never felt the joy of creation, if you’ve never felt that deep connection with an artists or with fans from a few simple words and a few simple chords, then you have no right to write about music and no right to say that OPM is dead. It’s insulting to us who are working on finding ways to make Filipino music sustainable. It’s insulting to music labels who believe in the power of good music. It’s insulting to “poor” musicians who simply love creating music whether they have an audience or not. It’s also insulting to Eraseheads and Rico Blanco, musicians who worked their asses off, to be judged simply on their sales and popularity.
And it’s sad, overall, that you’d rather whine and complain than actually doing something to help. It’s a waste of your obviously superior intellect and a waste of your time. Anyone can write a commentary. Not everyone is brave enough or smart enough to try and grab near impossible problems by the balls and say, “Screw it, I’m going to do something anyway”. - by: Julia Jasmine Madrazo Sta. Romana

I am truly proud to introduce a new star, another Davao's Pride in the name of Jad Montenegro-Amor.

A 27 years old. Her passion of sounds, words, and tunes makes her continue to do the things she loved. Moving to one band to another band doesn't stop her for love of MUSIC.  She had stints in all girl bands and in a Goth music band.

I really admired her style and the witty image she is trying to project to her fans.  I just known her through her Facebook Account and her website JAD MONTENEGRO.COM.

In her early career she played rhythm for a pop punk band called APOLLO CREED.  Then she played lead guitarist for a band GLORY DAYS OF SUMMER.  When she finally went back to Davao, she formed her own band and now recorded her first extended play(EP) entitled "FIXED POINTS and PENDULUMS".   It really rose sky-high, leading the independent music scene in Davao City.

For you to believe me LISTEN to this:

Orange Box Studio started way back in 2009, but it was way different from how it is today. Also a musician, Carl Alminaza Magbanua, or Slaw to his friends built the studio with the intention of just setting it up for personal use. He had songs, and he just wanted a cheap and convenient place to record his songs. “Commercial studios are very expensive, you had to wait your turn, and basically, some places were just uncomfortable”. After a few years and gears however, the hobby grew to a studio that finally opened to the public.

Orange Box Recording Studio
Since then, they’ve been a favourite practice and recording spot of Davao’s indie bands like the Quasar Project, Anne Mendoza, Superseniors, Astronauts, Hush, Kwatro Medya, Garann, Rise From Oblivion and many more. There are several reasons why Orange Box has grew to become a favourite despite being far from the city. First, it’s cozy, second, it’s not as expensive, and third, the bands can get to work with really good people like Paeng Pulgar, Ace Bona, and Ace Sanchez.
When asked if he has any favourite bands to work with, Slaw answered, “I don’t have favourites, and I’m open to everyone, but I’d rather work with people who are easy to talk with and open to new ideas. Also especially those who are always on time!” he exclaimed, obviously recollecting a few moments, “but one of the best things about being located outside the city, is once they come here to record, you know they mean business. They came here for the quality, and they didn’t care that they had to travel a little further than usual.”

Slaw also expressed his thoughts about the slow progress of the music scene. “Since 2003, there has been little change in the music scene. Show bands get the gigs and the cash, while the indie bands play for free. The indie bands on the other hand, want the best recording but are hesitant to spend money, which is why there is very little progress in the scene. Another consideration would be the music venues. DBar  for example, is gone. There is hope though, there are bands that persevere even if they have to crawl their way to continue their music.” This is the reason he says, why he also continues to make plans for the future of Orange Box. He plans to get more gear upgrades, promos, or anything else to cater to the artists, and what they want for their music.
One of the efforts is bringing his recording stuff down from the comfort of Mintal to Sa’less in order to record DMN Amplified. “I want to expose my studio to more people, a bigger audience. At the same time, this is a new venture for me, so I believe this is part of the progress, my share for the progress of the Davao music scene.”

For those who are interested in practicing or recording, you can find Orange Box Recording Studio at 43 Bougainvilla st. Mintal, Davao City.
